Traditional leaders in Kwekwe District are appealing to the government to provide them with houses in the City of Kwekwe among other perks.

This came out during an engagement meeting between ZANU-PF Politburo members and traditional leaders which was held at the Zibagwe Rural District Council offices in Kwekwe on Thursday this week.

Chief Sigodho said they face inconveniences having to travel back to their rural homes late at night due to the lack of allocated homes after conducting government business in the city.

“We are appealing to the Government to provide us with houses in the City of Kwekwe. Sometimes we have to endure driving back to our rural homes at night after attending meetings in Kwekwe,” he said.

Chief Samuel Samambwa also pointed out the need for the construction of chief’s courts and the provision of handcuffs for chiefs’ aides to maintain law and order.

“We need proper courtrooms to handle our affairs in a dignified manner. At the moment we dont have any sites to use as our courts. We also require handcuffs to assist in apprehending criminals brought to us,” he said.

Chief Wait Gwesela (pictured above) called on the government to improve the welfare of village heads.

“The government needs to improve the welfare of village heads inorder to motivate them to deliver on their mandate,” he said.

Meanwhile, the traditional leaders voiced their support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s extended rule, with some calling for his leadership to continue beyond 2030.

Chief Gwesela said traditional leaders in Kwekwe District have unwavering support to the President’s extended term.

“Our President should extend his rule beyond 2030 because we have seen much good work under his leadership. We are in support of his rule 100% based on all his good works, which we want to continue,” he said.

ZANU-PF Central Committee Member, Dr. Emmanuel Anesu Fundira said the President appreciated the support from traditional leaders.

“Our President is thankful to all the traditional leaders here for their support. This kind of support is encouraged to continue as we move forward together,” he said.

He urged traditional leaders to open up on any grievances they may have so that the President can address them.

“It is crucial to address the issues so that we can move forward until we achieve our goal of becoming an upper-middle-income society by the year 2030, with our President E.D. Mnangagwa still in power,” he said.
