ZANU-PF Midlands provincial vice chairperson Lewis Matutu has warned politicians against corruption involving fuel and food allocated for national events, saying such practices risk damaging the ruling party’s image.

Speaking during a State Occasions Committee meeting in Kwekwe ahead of the official opening of the New Glovers Solar Power Plant in Munyati by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday and the National Cookout competitions at Mbizo Stadium to be hosted by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa on Monday, Matutu called for tighter monitoring of resources meant for public gatherings.

“I warn politicians to desist from crimes involving fuel and food meant for national events or public gatherings,” said Matutu.

“It is wise to entrust the police to ensure orderly distribution of fuel and food to avoid soiling the ruling party’s name and protect its image. We must not be found wanting.”

Matutu said authorities should ensure accountability in the handling of supplies allocated for official functions to maintain public confidence and uphold order during national programmes.

He also cautioned members of the public against taking intoxicating substances when attending public gatherings, saying such behaviour could lead to disorderly conduct.

The State Occasions Committee meeting was held as preparations intensify for the commissioning of the New Glovers Solar Power Plant at Munyati and the National Cookout competitions in Kwekwe.
