The Zimbabwe Volleyball Association senior national volleyball teams departed for Lusaka, Zambia today (Friday) for a series of international friendly matches as part of preparations for the upcoming CAVB Senior Nations Championship (LA28 Qualifiers) – Zone VI tournament.

In a press release, the association’s secretary general Priestledge Nhamburo said the trip is aimed at helping the teams build match fitness, improve combinations and strengthen team cohesion ahead of the regional competition to be hosted in Harare from 7 to 14 June 2026.

The friendly matches are scheduled for 23 and 24 May at the OYDC venue in Lusaka.

“The squad is heading to Lusaka for a series of high-intensity friendly matches as they fine-tune their armour,” Nhamburo said in the statement.

Zimbabwe will host the Zone VI qualifiers, which also serve as part of the qualification pathway for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Nhamburo said the preparations are important as the national teams seek to perform well on home soil during the continental qualifiers.

“The road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics goes through Harare and the work starts now,” he said.

The association also called on Zimbabweans to support the national teams during the build-up to the tournament.

The CAVB Senior Nations Championship Zone VI qualifiers are expected to attract teams from across Southern Africa as countries compete for regional honours and qualification opportunities.
