Zibagwe Rural District Council (ZRDC) chief executive officer Farayi Desimond Machaya has called on rural schools in the district to continuously improve their examination pass rates following recent audit findings.
Speaking during a full council meeting Machaya said council had assessed the performance of selected schools and noted the need for sustained efforts to raise academic outcomes.
“Schools are advised to continuously work on improving the pass rate,” he said.
According to Machaya, council audited Gwenzimukulu Primary School and Rujeko Somalala Secondary School during the period under review.
Rujeko Somalala recorded a pass rate of 18.6 percent in 2025, while Gwenzimukulu Primary School achieved a 48.63 percent pass rate in 2024.
Machaya said, beyond academic performance, the audit also identified gaps in administrative practices, particularly in record keeping and asset management.
“Various recommendations to improve record keeping and asset management, especially biological assets like goats, were proffered,” he said.
The audits form part of council’s broader oversight role aimed at strengthening governance and service delivery within institutions under its jurisdiction.
Education stakeholders in rural areas often face challenges such as limited resources, staffing constraints and infrastructure gaps, which can affect learning outcomes.
