A Kwekwe resident, Lovemore Zifezho, marked his 50th birthday by celebrating with underprivileged families at Conwell Blocks in Mbizo 2, in an event residents described as a rare gesture of compassion.

Enock Mawere, a resident of Conwell Blocks, which is home to 15 vulnerable families, said the occasion was the first time an individual had chosen to celebrate a personal milestone with them.

“We are happy about this development. This is the first time that someone has come to celebrate their birthday with us,” Mawere said in an interview.

“He has demonstrated kindness and we appreciate the support from him and his family.”

Kwekwe Ward 8 Cllr Kudakwashe Gwamuri commended the initiative and encouraged others in the community to support vulnerable groups during both difficult and celebratory times.

“I want to thank him for celebrating his birthday with the underprivileged families at Conwell Blocks. This is a challenge to others,” Gwamuri said. “Let us not only come together during funerals but also during good times. I encourage members of the community to visit and support these families.”

Zifezho, who turned 50 on April 19 said he was motivated to share his celebration with the families after reflecting on how best to mark the milestone.

“I felt it was important to celebrate this day with those in need,” he said. “With the help of friends and family, we organised the event and shared what we could.”

He added that this was not his first interaction with residents at Conwell Blocks, having previously donated food supplies in 2024 after learning about their living conditions.

Zifezho said he hopes the gesture will inspire others to support vulnerable communities.
