The Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa School of Nursing is set to enrol its first group of students after meeting regulatory requirements set by the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
The institution, located at Muduvuri Pan African Referral Hospital, is expected to begin classes in May and will offer a diploma programme for Registered General Nurses.
Officials say the school aims to contribute to training healthcare personnel and supporting service delivery in the health sector.
Founder Jimayi Muduvuri said the project was established to complement government efforts in strengthening healthcare services and expanding training opportunities.
“We saw the need to invest in health infrastructure and skills development as part of efforts to support the country’s health system,” he said.
Muduvuri said his involvement in the sector was influenced by past experiences that motivated him to contribute to healthcare development.
Senior tutor-in-charge Lusica Shumba said the institution is ready to receive its first intake.
“All preparations have been completed, including classrooms, library facilities and student accommodation,” she said.
She added that the training programme will combine theoretical instruction with practical clinical experience at the hospital.
The school has reportedly received a high number of applications from prospective students across the country, although officials did not provide specific figures.
The establishment of the nursing school comes at a time when Zimbabwe continues to face demand for trained healthcare workers, with authorities and stakeholders seeking to expand training capacity.
The project also reflects growing private sector participation in health training and infrastructure development.
