A Hardrock Football Club supporter admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital says he sustained a fractured right knee after being caught up in violence that erupted during the abandoned Premier Soccer League match between Hardrock and Dynamos FC at Chahwanda Stadium on Sunday.

Christmas Muzama said he was injured during a stampede as spectators fled from the violence in the terraces.

Speaking to Kwekwe mayor Albert Zinhanga during the mayor’s visit to the hospital on Monday, Muzama said several people ran over him as they scrambled for safety.

“I was seated at the lower seats and when violence broke out at the terraces, a person who was running to safety together with others stepped on my leg while others fell over me,” he said.

“I fell down when I tried to stand up and walk because I was in pain.”

Muzama is among several Dynamos supporters who received treatment following the disturbances that led to the abandonment of the match.

Government medical officer Dr Bruce Mhondiwa confirmed that 19 of the injured spectators were treated, with some admitted for further medical care.
