A family in Kwekwe’s Mbizo 2 suburb narrowly escaped injury after a mysterious explosion damaged part of their home on Sunday night.

The blast occurred at house number 84/2 Mbizo, Kwekwe owned by Norah Majoni and destroyed a section of the roof, shattered window panes, and cracked a wall.

Majoni told The Public Eye that her family had just retired to bed when the explosion occurred.

“We heard a loud bang but could not identify the cause. We came out to investigate and saw quite a number of people gathered at our house,” she said.

According to Majoni, some witnesses claimed they saw a person disembark from an Altezza vehicle and throw an unidentified object at the house before fleeing.

“At first we suspected it was a bomb but later doubted this. We called my sister’s son, who reported the incident to Mbizo Police Station, and the police attended the scene to carry out investigations,” she said.

She said police did not disclosed the nature or cause of the explosion.

No injuries were reported, and Majoni said she could not speculate on who might be behind the attack.
