Construction of Chahwanda Stadium B Arena Set to Boost Kwekwe Sports Infrastructure

By Flata Kavinga

Construction of the Chahwanda Stadium B Arena in Kwekwe is expected to add another sporting facility to the city’s growing sports infrastructure landscape.

The development, which is part of the wider Chahwanda Stadium complex along the Gokwe Road, is designed to complement the main Chahwanda Stadium, a proposed 15 000-seater facility.

The project is among privately funded sporting infrastructure developments in the country and is expected to contribute towards improving access to modern sporting facilities.

The B Arena will feature a football pitch and a modern athletics track, making it a multipurpose venue for various sporting disciplines, including football and athletics.

The facility is expected to serve as an alternative venue for Hardrock FC matches, while also catering for the club’s women’s team and developmental sides.

The arena will also include a gymnasium located near the changing rooms, adding to the facilities available for athletes.

Recent design concepts of the project show plans for a modern facility that will complement the wider Chahwanda Stadium development.

The broader stadium complex, being developed by local businessman Shepherd Chahwanda includes the Chahwanda Stadium, which is planned to meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) Category 2 standards.

Other planned facilities within the complex include a sports medicine clinic, hospitality facilities, a restaurant and a high-performance gym.

The development comes at a time when football and athletics stakeholders in Zimbabwe continue to call for improved sporting infrastructure capable of hosting competitive events.

Once completed, the Chahwanda Stadium complex is expected to provide athletes, football clubs and sports fans in Kwekwe and surrounding areas with additional sporting facilities.

Progress on the project and completion timelines will be determined as construction work continues.
