President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to officially commission the New Glovers Solar Power Plant in Munyati, Kwekwe, on May 21 following a change to the initial programme.
Speaking during a Midlands provincial state occasions preparatory meeting held in Kwekwe on Today (Tuesday), Midlands secretary for provincial affairs and devolution Dr Edgars Seenza said the commissioning date had been moved forward from 29 May resulting in the need for accelerated preparations.
Dr Seenza said provincial stakeholders had been called to the meeting to review progress and coordinate preparations ahead of the presidential event.
“Initially it was planned for the 29th of May, but we received communication yesterday that it has been moved,” he said.
“It will change from the 29 May to the 21st of May, which is Thursday next week, and it will be commissioned by His Excellency, the President of the Second Republic.”
He said the limited time frame required all subcommittees involved in organising the event to increase the pace of preparations.
“We need to work together and make sure that come the 21st of May, everything will be set for the official commissioning by His Excellency,” said Dr Seenza.
The committee is also expected to review preparations for the national cookout competitions scheduled for 25 May which Kwekwe is expected to host.
Dr Seenza said the commissioning ceremony would be hosted by Zibagwe Rural District Council, while Kwekwe would host the national cookout competitions.
He said another preparatory meeting had been scheduled for Friday to receive progress reports from committees working on both events.
