The Municipality of Redcliff has begun installing solar-powered street lights as part of efforts to promote sustainable development and improve service delivery.
In a notice to residents, Public Relations Manager Michael Kundai Magoronga said the installation exercise has started along the stretch from the Turn-Off to Ziscosteel under a pilot project targeting 50 solar street lights.
“This marks an important step in the municipality’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development,” said Magoronga.
He said the initiative forms part of the council’s broader strategy to adopt clean energy solutions as it works towards attaining city status by 2030.
“If successful, the project will be scaled up significantly, with plans to install more than 1,000 solar street lights across Redcliff,” he said.
Magoronga added that the municipality has already transitioned key facilities such as boreholes and clinics to solar power to ensure reliable and environmentally friendly energy sources for essential services.
“The move to solar energy will not only improve service delivery but also reduce dependence on conventional power sources, positioning Redcliff as an environmentally conscious community,” he said.
