Kwekwe Acting Mayor Cllr Kudakwashe Gwamuri says the city is aligning itself with government efforts to promote investment and economic growth, citing the development of the US$800 000 Greens Shopping Mall in Mbizo as evidence of progress.
Speaking during the official opening of the mall by Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube in Mbizo suburb he said the construction of the shopping mall reflects council’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for private sector investment and local economic development.
“The City of Kwekwe has embraced the government’s call to action to promote investment and allow ease of doing business,” he said.
Gwamuri noted that while Kwekwe is often associated with political activity, it is also home to a growing and committed business community contributing to the city’s development.
“The Central Government has tasked Kwekwe to prioritise development and we are seeing that through projects such as this,” he said.
He also acknowledged the role of local investors in driving economic activity, highlighting the involvement of the mall’s developers as an example of entrepreneurship within the community.
The Acting Mayor expressed appreciation to central government for supporting youth development initiatives in the city, saying such efforts are key to fostering sustainable economic growth.
The Greens Shopping Mall is expected to provide space for small and medium enterprises and create employment opportunities as it becomes fully operational.
The project forms part of broader efforts to stimulate investment and modernise urban infrastructure in Kwekwe.
