A diabetic woman from Mbizo Section 3 in Kwekwe, Mufaro Mwale, has received a wheelchair and groceries from the Sebakwe Lions Club, in a gesture aimed at improving her quality of life.
The wheelchair, which was sourced by Lioness Lucy Murawu, was handed over during a community outreach programme led by the club’s administrator and past president Dr. Alva Senderai.
The donation also included food items and toiletries to assist Mwale in her daily needs.
Dr. Senderai said the support was part of the club’s mandate under Lions Clubs International, which prioritises health, humanitarian relief, and community service.
“Among our eight global service pillars is diabetes care, which is central to Ms. Mwale’s situation,” he said. “We also look at environmental interventions, childhood cancer, youth empowerment, hunger relief, and disaster support. What we have done today may not be much, but we hope it will go a long way in easing her challenges.”
Lioness Murawu explained that she had initially obtained the wheelchair under difficult circumstances and decided to channel it towards helping Mwale after learning about her struggle with mobility and lack of access to proper ablution facilities.
“The washroom in her home was not a sitting one, which created serious difficulties given her condition,” Murawu said. “When I heard about her situation, I felt compelled to ensure she received the wheelchair.”
Mwale expressed gratitude to the club for the donation, describing it as life-changing support in her battle with diabetes.
The Sebakwe Lions Club has been carrying out a series of community outreach programmes in Kwekwe and surrounding areas, targeting vulnerable groups with health and social assistance.
