The Municipality of Redcliff has submitted feasibility documents for its proposed water treatment plant to the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA), with the project now under review, a senior council official has said.
Department of Spatial Planning and Land Development Manager Ernest Chigwagwa told journalists after a recent full council meeting that council had completed and forwarded a feasibility study for the project to ZIDA as part of efforts to mobilise investment.
“As a municipality, what we did was to prepare a feasibility study for the water treatment plant and those documents have since been submitted to ZIDA,” said Chigwagwa.
He said the investment agency had requested additional documentation before making a determination.
“We were also asked to submit further information which pertains to the financial feasibility of the project as well as the environmental and social impact of the project. So those three documents are currently being analysed by ZIDA,” he said.
Chigwagwa described this as the current position regarding the proposed plant but did not provide timelines for feedback from ZIDA or the anticipated commencement of the project.
The proposed water treatment plant is expected to improve water supply in Redcliff, which has faced periodic challenges related to water availability and infrastructure constraints.
Council has previously indicated that upgrading water infrastructure is among its service delivery priorities.
ZIDA is mandated to evaluate and facilitate investment proposals in Zimbabwe, including infrastructure projects requiring public-private partnerships or external funding.
