The Municipality of Redcliff says water supply to the town has significantly improved following increased inflows from Kwekwe City, with most suburbs now receiving water more regularly.
Addressing journalists soon after a full council meeting, the council’s Civil Engineer Alice Utete said that several areas are now accessing water daily.
“We are receiving water from Kwekwe City, four to five bars every day. Most areas in Rutendo and Torwood are getting water. Except for Redcliff, which awaits the completion of the power separation in Zisco, for us to be able to pump water into the Musgrave tanks and then supply. But at this point, there is significant improvement in water supply,” Utete said.
Meanwhile, Housing and Community Services Acting Director Enerst Chigwagwa, said the council was pursuing long-term solutions through plans to establish a local water treatment plant.
“We have received numerous expressions of interest from various companies who want to assist us in the development of a water treatment plant. However, most of these proposals involve Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), which require cabinet approval through the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA),” Chigwagwa said.
He explained that the municipality was finalising a financial feasibility study before submitting it to ZIDA for analysis and eventual consideration by cabinet.
“Once the feasibility study is approved, we will then go further to tender for construction companies to carry out the actual work under the PPP arrangement,” he added.
Redcliff has faced long-running water challenges, relying heavily on neighbouring Kwekwe City for supply, while residents await a permanent solution through the establishment of the treatment plant.
