The Municipality of Redcliff has introduced an incentive scheme offering senior citizens a 50 percent reduction on supplementary charges as part of efforts to cushion the elderly from financial strain.

Speaking in an interview after a full council meeting, the local authority’s chief sccountant Wonder Ncube said the incentive applies to both low- and high-density suburbs.

“For the elderly, we have an incentive of 50 percent for those staying in low-density areas, and the same percentage applies to supplementary charges for those residing in high-density suburbs,” said Ncube.

He explained that beneficiaries must meet certain requirements before accessing the rebate.

“The requirement is that they should bring their title deeds or agreement of sale and their national ID card as proof that they are over 60 years for them to benefit from that,” he said.

The initiative is part of Redcliff Municipality’s broader efforts to promote social welfare and ensure inclusivity in its billing and service delivery systems.

Municipal officials said the local authority remains committed to supporting vulnerable groups, including senior citizens, in line with its community care mandate.
