Redcliff Municipality repossesses 90 residential stands over non-compliance

The Municipality of Redcliff has begun repossessing at least 90 residential stands across the town after beneficiaries failed to meet payment and development conditions, an official has confirmed.

Public Relations Manager Michael Kundai Magoronga said the affected stands are located in several suburbs, including Rutendo, Englebretch and Redcliff.

“It’s true we are repossessing about 90 stands. There could be more, but so far the official number that we have is 90,” Magoronga said in an interview.

He noted that the repossessions cut across high, medium and low-density residential areas.

Magoronga said the move follows failure by some beneficiaries to fulfil contractual obligations, particularly payment of the full purchase price.

“Some of these people paid as little as US$50 or US$500 and did not complete payment. As a result, we are taking back the stands for resale,” he said.

In addition to non-payment, the municipality cited failure by some stand holders to develop their properties within the stipulated timeframe.

“There are also those who did not develop the stands within six years, which is the required period for completion of development,” Magoronga added.

He said the local authority would proceed to reallocate the repossessed stands to other prospective buyers.

“It is unfortunate that we are taking back the stands, but we will be reselling them to other willing buyers,” he said.

The municipality has not yet indicated when the reallocation process will begin or whether affected residents will be given an opportunity to regularise their allocations.
