The Municipality of Redcliff has rolled out an Integrated Health Mobile Outreach Programme aimed at improving access to essential health services for residents across the town, in line with national development priorities.
Public Relations Manager Michael Kundai Magoronga said the programme, which began on 18 March and will run until 24 April, is designed to bring healthcare services closer to communities, supporting the health delivery objectives under Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
“We have rolled out what we call the Integrated Health Mobile Outreach Programme, which is aimed at improving access to essential health services within the community,” Magoronga said.
He noted that the initiative reflects the local authority’s mandate as a service delivery arm of government, contributing to improved primary healthcare systems and community well-being.
“As a council, we are the third tier of government, meaning we are closest to the people. Our major role is to ensure that residents access necessary services,” he said.
Magoronga said the outreach programme will provide a wide range of services, including child immunisation, family planning, HIV testing, health education, as well as screening and management of chronic diseases.
He added that the programme remains flexible to address emerging health concerns within communities.
The mobile teams are expected to cover all suburbs, including Rutendo, Simbi Park, Millennium Park, Englebretch, Torwood, Rennie and surrounding areas, ensuring broad community coverage.
He said special attention will also be given to outlying and farming communities in Torwood to promote inclusivity and equitable access to healthcare.
“We are also targeting farming communities so that no one is left behind,” he said.
Magoronga urged residents to take advantage of the programme, noting that it contributes to achieving Minimum Service Delivery Standards (MSDS), particularly in the provision of accessible and quality primary healthcare services.
“We encourage our residents to take advantage of this opportunity to access these essential services,” he said.
While the municipality has not indicated whether the programme will be extended beyond April, officials say it forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery at community level and advance national health outcomes.
