Redcliff Municipality is at an advanced stage of preparing its 2027 budget, with the draft expected to be presented to councillors next week for consideration and adoption.
Municipality of Redcliff finance director Lindiwe Whata said the local authority had completed consultations on its performance during the first six months of the year and was now finalising the proposed budget.
Speaking to journalists after a full council meeting, Whata said the municipality intended to share the draft budget with councillors before advertising it in the press to allow residents to participate in the consultation process.
“We are finalising on the draft budget. By next week we will be sharing with the councillors for adoption so that we move to the rates and then we will be having a complete budget for 2027,” she said.
Whata said the budget preparation process had been affected by a workshop attended by council officials but the municipality was resuming work to meet its target.
She said the municipality would advertise the draft budget in the press once it had been shared with councillors, allowing residents to examine proposed revenue schedules for the council’s various revenue centres.
“As soon as we share with the councillors, at the same time we will be advertising in the press so that people would come and view the schedules by the revenue centres for council as part of the consultation process,” she said.
The consultations are expected to give residents an opportunity to scrutinise the proposed budget and contribute to the local authority’s planning for 2027.
However, the proposed budget figures, including projected revenue, expenditure and service delivery priorities, were not disclosed during the interview.
