The Municipality of Redcliff has partnered with the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) to deal with a growing baboon menace that has been troubling residents in the town.
Redcliff Housing and Community Services Acting Director, Enerst Chigwagwa, said Zimparks had been engaged to intervene and will begin awareness programmes before taking action on the animals.
“We have engaged with Zimparks. They are coming this week to do a conscientization of the community that they are now going to be dealing with the problem of baboons,” Chigwagwa said.
He added that practical measures would be rolled out in the coming week once Zimparks finalises its plan.
“Next week they will then do the actual work. We will know from them. They haven’t told us what they are actually going to do. So maybe we will know by the end of this week what they are going to be doing,” he said.
Residents in parts of Redcliff have raised concern over increasing encounters with baboons, which have been straying into residential areas in search of food and causing disturbances.
