The Municipality of Redcliff is still awaiting approval of its 2026 budget from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Finance Director Lindiwe Hwata has said.
Speaking to journalists soon after a full council meeting, Hwata said councils in Midlands Province had not yet received feedback from the ministry, although some provinces had started getting approval letters.
“Some provinces have started receiving letters from the ministry. As Midlands Province, no one has received a letter yet, but we are advised that the budgets are with the minister and we expect a response anytime, possibly this week or next week,” she said.
Under Zimbabwean law, local authority budgets must be approved by the responsible minister before they can be implemented.
Hwata did not indicate any changes to the proposed budget but said council was awaiting formal communication before proceeding with implementation plans for the 2026 financial year.
The delay means Redcliff, like other councils in the province, remains in a holding position pending ministerial clearance.
