President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on the manufacturing sector to take the initiative in adopting forward-looking business models that extend their impact beyond Zimbabwe’s borders and throughout the continent.
Speaking at the official opening of the Iron and Steel Indaba in Kwekwe recently, he explained the critical role that manufacturing plays in revitalizing the country’s infrastructure.
“I challenge stakeholders in this particular sector to take leadership and implement forward-looking business models which impact beyond our borders and the continent,” he said.
He also highlighted the sector’s importance in the modernization of the national railway network, as well as the foundry and fabrication of industrial equipment for the transport and energy sectors.
“The sector is intergral for the resuscitation and modernization of our National railway network as well as foundry and fabrication of industrial equipment for the transport and energy sectors among others,” he added.
He pointed out that the construction sector and other infrastructure projects, including dams and modern roads, rely heavily on the viability of the manufacturing industry.
He noted the vital role of iron and steel products in the agricultural sector, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by climate change and enhancing irrigation infrastructure.
