Preparations are at an advanced stage for the commissioning of the E.D. Mnangagwa Law School in Kwekwe, which is set to host the Midlands State University (MSU) graduation ceremony next month under the officiation of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, last week on Thursday chaired a provincial stakeholders’ meeting aimed at ensuring the swift completion of the remaining works at the new law school campus.

The minister said government departments, local authorities and partners were expected to expedite outstanding tasks identified during a tour of the campus on 14 July 2025.

“These meetings are meant to facilitate seamless completion of the remaining onsite and offsite scope of works by all agencies and partners,” Ncube said.

Key works include the conveyance of municipal water to the site by the City of Kwekwe, upgrading of electricity supply to guarantee uninterrupted power during the commissioning and graduation ceremonies, and the rehabilitation of the old Gokwe road being undertaken by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development through its contractor, Road Trackers.

Midlands State University has also been tasked with clearing vegetation at the graduation site, while the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) is working on completing road works from the campus boundary to GTS Service Station near Amaveni Traffic Circle.

Ncube said the smooth hosting of the upcoming graduation, the first to be held at the new law school, was a priority for both the province and the university.

The E.D. Mnangagwa Law School is expected to boost legal education in Zimbabwe, expanding Midlands State University’s footprint and strengthening its capacity to train professionals in the legal fraternity.
