Officer Commanding Police Kwekwe District Chief Superintendent Ison Chapeta says murder cases have declined in Kwekwe District following strengthened cooperation between the police, traditional leaders and local communities.
Speaking during the relaunch of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Service Charter in Kwekwe, Chapeta attributed the reduction in murder cases to improved collaboration between law enforcement and residents.
He said police became concerned by the rise in murder cases in the district and engaged traditional leaders to address the problem.
“We were concerned about the rising murder cases but when we sat down with traditional leaders, the situation began to improve,” Chapeta said.
He identified Silobela as one of the areas that had recorded significant progress.
“Silobela was number one in murder cases but now it is number one on the decline of murder cases,” he said.
Chapeta added that police had accounted for all murder suspects in Silobela and neighbouring Zhombe.
Chapeta said the decline in murder cases demonstrates the importance of cooperation between the police and members of the public.
“The decline in murder cases is a result of the good working relationship between the police and citizens,” he said.
He urged residents to remain united and continue working closely with the police to maintain peace and security across the district.
“Let’s remain united as the people of Kwekwe. Let’s work together to achieve Vision 2030,” Chapeta said.
