Police in Midlands Province have arrested a 39-year-old Kwekwe man who had been on the run for several years in connection with a string of violent crimes.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrest of Goodhope Mahachi of Mbizo, Kwekwe, on September 6 at Zhombe East Business Centre.
He said Mahachi was picked up around 7pm during a routine patrol when a team of four officers conducted stop-and-search operations in the area.
“The suspect had been on the run for a long time. His luck ran out when police on patrol arrived at Zhombe East Business Centre. He tried several antics to resist arrest but was finally detained,” Mahoko said.
According to police, Mahachi has been linked to cases of murder, attempted murder, assault, and malicious damage to property committed in Kwekwe District between 2018 and 2024.
Inspector Mahoko commended the officers involved in the arrest and urged members of the public to remain vigilant.
“We reiterate our calls that the general public should remain on the lookout for criminal fugitives who may be in their midst, targeting anything they can lay their hands on,” he said.
Mahachi is in police custody and investigations are ongoing.
