One person died on the spot while another was injured in a road traffic accident that occurred along the Gudo–Mhototi dust road in Zvishavane on 1 October, police have confirmed.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the accident occurred around 1645 hours, about 1 kilometre along the Gudo–Mhototi road.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident where one person died on the spot and another was injured,” said Inspector Mahoko.

He identified the deceased as Tapiwa Mhlanga (36) of Majambila Village, Chief Mazvihwa in Zvishavane.

According to police, Tadiwa Hove (23) of Dovengwe Village, also under Chief Mazvihwa, was driving a Toyota Fun Cargo with one passenger on board when the vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree.

“Mhlanga sustained head injuries and died on the spot while Hove was taken to Zvishavane District Hospital, where he is admitted in a stable condition,” said Inspector Mahoko.

He urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads to prevent further loss of life.

“We continue to urge motorists to exercise maximum caution when behind the wheel to avoid unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.

Police investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
