Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube has called on Zimbabweans to uphold unity, peace, and empowerment as championed by the Second Republic under President Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Ncube made the call while officiating as guest of honour at the 2025 Simon Vengai Muzenda Golf Championship Tournament held at Kwekwe Golf Club on today (Saturday).

The tournament, being hosted in Midlands Province for the second consecutive year, is held annually in honour of the late nationalist, former Vice President and veteran of the liberation struggle, Simon Vengai Muzenda.

In his address, Ncube described Muzenda as “the soul of the nation” whose legacy of humility, unity and service to the people should continue to inspire Zimbabweans.

“The tournament demonstrates our collective desire to appreciate and preserve the immense contribution of Dr. Muzenda towards the freedom and empowerment of the majority of Zimbabweans,” Ncube said.

He urged citizens to safeguard the gains of independence by rallying behind the peace and development agenda pursued since the advent of the Second Republic in 2017.

“As we gather here today, I urge you all to uphold the unity, peace and empowerment pursued by the Second Republic under the stewardship of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, as we pay tribute to our founding fathers,” he said.

The event drew golfers, community leaders and government officials who paid tribute to Muzenda’s contributions to education, infrastructure development and nation-building.

Muzenda, who was born in Gutu District in 1922, served as Vice President of Zimbabwe from 1987 until his death in 2003.
