The Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube says construction of the new Globe and Phoenix Primary School in Kwekwe is now 78 percent complete, with the facility expected to be ready for use by September 2025.

Speaking during his maiden tour of the school on Monday, Ncube said the new infrastructure will accommodate 785 pupils and replace the old school, which was decommissioned, forcing learners to relocate to temporary classrooms at Russel Primary School.

“Today’s event aligns with the Second Republic’s commitment to infrastructure development in pursuit of quality education through improved teaching and learning environments,” Ncube said.

The minister said the project supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality, inclusive, and equitable education, as well as the National Development Strategy 1’s human capital development pillar.

Ncube commended President Emmerson Mnangagwa for promoting partnerships among the private sector, local authorities, and church organisations in the education sector. He singled out The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kwekwe City Council, the SDA Church, community leaders, Vendors4ED, and other stakeholders for mobilising resources to fund the school’s construction.

The project has already seen trusses installed on the administration block, ablution facilities, and seven double classroom blocks, while five more double classroom blocks are at roofing stage. The construction is employing 50 workers.

The minister also noted that the project is part of a wider drive by the Second Republic to modernise the province, citing other initiatives such as the private-sector-led Chahwanda Stadium, Zhong Jin International Hotel, and resurfacing of the Kwekwe–Zhombe road.

“I have indeed witnessed satisfactory progress during my tour of Globe and Phoenix. Keep up the good work,” Ncube said.
