KWEKWE Mayor Councillor Albert Zinhanga has criticized individuals who publicly pledge support for projects but fail to deliver on their commitments, particularly in relation to the construction of the new Globe and Phoenix Primary School.
During a recent visit to the construction site, where the Humanitarian Manager Tatenda Chiore, from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, provided updates on the project, Mayor Zinhanga expressed his disappointment over unfulfilled pledges.
“It is embarrassing that many pledges were made towards the construction of the new school with nothing to show on the ground. I wanted to be here today to meet and thank the people who contributed to this cause from the bottom of my heart. We had so many individuals from the community who had pledged for the school to start running, but it was just a pledge with nothing to show,” he said.
Mayor Zinhanga expressed the need for accountability and promised to follow up on those who pledged donations.
“I feel ashamed that we made pledges and have not fulfilled them, therefore I personally intend to use my office to do the follow-ups on those pledges so that they can meet their obligations,” he said.
“We really appreciate all of you, as well as every cent and effort you are going to put on the ground for the children to have somewhere to step on,” the mayor said.
The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints has commenced the construction of seven classroom blocks for the new Globe and Phoenix Primary School.
Learners are currently attending lessons at Sally Mugabe Primary School after their school was decommissioned in March 2023 after a classroom colla[sed due to illegal mining activities at the school.
