Kwekwe Polytechnic has urged landlords providing off-campus accommodation to students to inspect their properties for furniture suspected to have been taken from the college without authorisation and to surrender any items believed to belong to the institution.
Speaking during an Off-Campus Students Accommodation Consultative Meeting held at the college last Friday, administration officer Simbarashe Chiwambo said the institution had engaged the Zimbabwe Republic Police to assist in recovering missing furniture.
“We had to engage the police to try and recover missing furniture from Kwekwe Polytechnic,” said Chiwambo.
He urged landlords to inspect their rented properties for items such as chairs and tables that may have been removed from the college by students staying off campus.
“It is important to carry out inspections in your homes to check if there is any furniture belonging to the college which may have been brought in by students staying in your rented accommodation. We suspect that students are taking furniture such as chairs and tables from the college to the rented homes where they stay,” he said.
Chiwambo appealed to landlords to cooperate with the college by returning any property they believe belongs to the institution.
“If you find furniture which does not belong to you and suspect that it belongs to Kwekwe Polytechnic in your homes, we request that you hand it over,” he said.
The consultative meeting brought together college officials and landlords to discuss issues affecting students staying in off-campus accommodation and ways of strengthening cooperation between the institution and accommodation providers.
