Kwekwe Mayor Cllr Albert Zinhanga, has appealed to residents to settle their rates and bills on time, saying consistent revenue inflows are critical to improving service delivery.
Speaking after a full council meeting, Zinhanga said the local authority relies on payments from residents to address key challenges affecting the city, including water supply and road maintenance.
“I want to ask Kwekwe residents to continue supporting us by paying their rates and bills,” he said. “All the challenges we are encountering as a city will be solved one at a time.”
Zinhanga said council was working towards improving infrastructure and service provision, but progress depended on a strong partnership between the municipality and residents.
“We are in the right direction, looking at possible solutions to ensure our city has better roads, reliable water supply and improved service delivery in the near future,” he said.
He added that these goals could only be achieved through a “good working relationship” between council and residents, underpinned by timely payment of municipal charges.
Local authorities across Zimbabwe have often faced financial constraints due to low revenue collection, which affects their ability to maintain infrastructure and provide basic services.
Some residents contacted for comment said they were willing to pay but called on council to ensure transparency and visible improvements in services.
The Kwekwe municipality has not disclosed current debt levels or collection targets but indicated that improving revenue inflows remains a priority.
