A Kwekwe man, Clever Moyo, has appealed for financial assistance to undergo medical treatment after sustaining serious injuries while rescuing his wife from a crocodile attack along the Sebakwe River at Bonyongwa Golden Barley Enterprise Farm.

Moyo said the incident occurred while his wife, Pride Tshuma, was fetching water from the river when she was attacked and dragged into the water by a crocodile.

In an effort to save her, Moyo jumped into the river, prompting the reptile to release his wife before turning on him.

Both victims sustained serious injuries in the attack. Tshuma’s injuries resulted in the amputation of her right arm, while Moyo suffered injuries to his hand, for which he now requires medical treatment.

Moyo has since appealed to members of the community and well-wishers for assistance to meet medical expenses related to his injuries.

Meanwhile, Kwekwe Mayor, Councillor Albert Zinhanga, has donated US$100 and a food hamper to the couple to help them seek treatment. The assistance was drawn from this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund.

“After hearing about the couple’s plight, we decided to assist with cash for them to seek treatment and a food hamper,” said Cllr Zinhanga.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the attack, while community members have continued to express concern over safety along sections of the Sebakwe River.
