Kwekwe expands tower lights to improve public safety

Kwekwe Mayor, Councillor Albert Zinhanga says the city has increased the number of tower lights across residential areas as part of efforts to enhance public safety and improve visibility at night.

In an interview, Cllr Zinhanga said most of the installed tower lights were now functional, reducing the risk of crime in previously dark spots.

“We have increased the number of tower lights and most of the tower lights are working. We don’t have any problem in terms of visibility,” he said.

The Mayor noted, however, that some parts of the city still lack adequate lighting, particularly in the Newtown and Masasa Park areas.

“In the lower density, only a section of Ward 14, which is Newtown and Msasa Park, still needs to be covered with street lights. But in most sections, we have done so well as a city,” Cllr Zinhanga said.

Council has made public lighting a key part of its infrastructure program, with the mayor emphasizing that the move was designed to improve community safety and instill public confidence.
