Kwekwe Mayor Councillor Albert Zinhanga says the city is in the process of reviewing its bylaws to align them with current needs and address challenges stemming from outdated regulations.
Speaking during a full councilmeeting, Zinhanga said the council had already applied to the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works for approval to proceed with the updates.
“We have already set the motion, made applications to the Ministry that we want to do our reviews in terms of the bylaws. We are just waiting for their response,” he said.
The mayor acknowledged that some of the city’s operational problems were linked to old bylaws that no longer reflected present-day realities.
“Those bylaws are now old. They need to move in line with the current trend. We are looking into the issue of bylaws and our policies as a matter of urgency,” Zinhanga said.
He expressed confidence that the review process would be completed soon, adding that council was committed to ensuring its policies met modern governance and service delivery standards.
