Kwekwe City Council invites public input on proposed 2026 rates review

The City of Kwekwe has invited residents and ratepayers to submit their views on the proposed review of rates, fees, service charges, and tariffs for the 2026 financial year.

In a public notice issued by Town Clerk Dr. Lucia Mkandhla, the local authority said the proposed adjustments are part of the 2026 Annual Budget Proposals and are being made in accordance with Section 219 (2) of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter 29:15), which requires councils to consult the public before adopting new charges.

“Notice is hereby given that Kwekwe City Council proposes to fix its charges for the year 2026,” the notice reads. “A copy of the schedule showing details of the proposed charges is available for inspection during normal office hours at the Civic Centre.”

Dr. Mkandhla said ratepayers’ contributions, objections, or comments on the proposed budget may be lodged in writing within 30 days from the first publication of the notice.

The city, like many local authorities across the country, conducts annual reviews of rates and tariffs as part of its budgeting process to ensure sustainable service delivery and cost recovery in areas such as water supply, refuse collection, housing, and infrastructure maintenance.

Residents wishing to inspect the proposals or make submissions can do so at the Kwekwe Civic Centre or contact the council through the Town Clerk’s Office via email at kkcitytownclerk@gmail.com or by telephone at 055-25-22301.

The 2026 budget consultations form part of Kwekwe City Council’s broader efforts to promote transparency and community participation in local governance and financial planning.
