Hardrock Football Club delivered a dominant performance to defeat visiting Hunters FC 6-1 in a Premier Soccer League match played at Chahwanda Stadium on Saturday.
Junior Makunike and Tinashe Mashaireni each scored twice for the hosts, while Washington Navaya and Donald Mudadi added a goal apiece. Hunters FC’s lone goal came from Eli Elunga.
The result marks one of Hardrock’s biggest wins of the season in a largely one-sided encounter.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Hardrock head coach Kelvin Kaindu said the performance reflected improvement in his team’s approach, particularly against sides they have previously struggled against.
“We came out strong and scored six goals. It shows that we are doing well, although with more composure we could have scored more,” said Kaindu.
He added that squad rotation has contributed to the team’s competitiveness, with several players making an impact when given opportunities.
“We want to give everyone a chance. By week 10, almost everyone has played, and that promotes competition within the squad,” he said, noting contributions from players such as Mudadi.
Looking ahead, Kaindu said the team will prepare for a potentially challenging fixture against TelOne, while acknowledging the need to improve defensively after conceding what he described as a “soft goal”.
Hunters FC head coach Nesbert Saruchera expressed concern over his team’s performance, describing the defeat as disappointing.
“This is my first time to lose 6-1 in a league match. We created chances but failed to convert them, and we conceded soft goals,” he said.
Saruchera added that the team would review the match internally to understand the result, while also highlighting the need to improve their scoring rate.
The win strengthens Hardrock’s position as they continue their league campaign, while Hunters FC will be looking to regroup ahead of their next fixture.
