Hardrock Football Club spokesperson Charles Chahwanda says the club’s new home, Chawanda Stadium, has been designed as a multi-purpose facility that will host a range of sporting activities beyond football.
Chahwanda made the remarks during the club’s kit unveiling ceremony, where he highlighted the stadium’s role in strengthening community sport and reviving Kwekwe’s football culture.
He said the development of the modern facility was driven by a vision to create an inclusive sporting hub that caters for different disciplines and community needs.
“Chawanda Stadium is not only for the game of soccer. It was designed to accommodate a number of sporting activities,” Chahwanda said.
According to the club spokesperson, the venue includes additional facilities such as five-a-side football pitches, swimming pools, basketball and netball courts, as well as provisions for rugby and a fully equipped gym.
He said the broader vision behind the project was to ensure the stadium becomes a community space that promotes participation in sport while supporting the club’s long-term growth.
“Our vision was to make sure that every member of the community is accommodated in that particular stadium,” he said.
Chahwanda also acknowledged the support from fans, corporate partners and stakeholders, saying their contribution helped turn the project from a concept into a completed facility.
The stadium will serve as Hardrock FC’s home ground as the club prepares for the new season, with officials expressing optimism that the venue will help restore the city’s strong football tradition while expanding opportunities for other sporting codes.
The kit unveiling ceremony brought together club leadership, players, supporters and partners, marking another milestone in the team’s preparations for the upcoming campaign.
