Grain Tigers patron urges players to pursue wealth creation

Grain Tigers Football Club patron Dr Edson Badarai has challenged players to use football as a platform to transform their lives through wealth creation, as the ZIFA Central Region Division One side unveiled its new kit in Kwekwe.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Badarai said the club’s vision goes beyond winning matches, urging players to pursue tangible personal development during their time with the team.

“I want you, when you think of Grain Tigers, not to just think of playing football, but to think about transforming your lives,” he said. “After two or three years, we should see tangible progress in your lives. When you look back, you should be able to say there is a difference from before you joined the club.”

Dr Badarai said the club had strengthened its squad following trials held last year to recruit new talent, expressing confidence in the team’s prospects this season.

“When I look at you, I see a balanced team with experience, youth, hunger and speed. We have everything that is required to succeed,” he said. “Nothing can stop us from winning matches this year.”

He, however, acknowledged that challenges may arise during the season and urged players to seek guidance from club leadership when necessary.

“I cannot say you will not have problems, but when you do, approach the relevant authorities and we will assist,” he said.

Dr Badarai added that while trophies remain important to the club, players should also strive to uplift their personal and family circumstances.

“We are happy when we win trophies, but we also want your families and communities to see positive change in your lives,” he said.

ZIFA Central Region Soccer League vice chairperson Pithias Shoko echoed similar sentiments, emphasising discipline and professionalism among players.

“As players you must remain disciplined, dedicated and be role models,” said Shoko. “You must shun drug and substance abuse and lead by example so that younger players can emulate you.”

He also commended the club’s sponsors, the Grain Marketing Board (GMB), for supporting the team, describing Grain Tigers as an organised outfit.

Shoko added that the league was preparing for upcoming competitions, including the Munhumutapa Cup draw scheduled for Saturday in Shurugwi, where four teams will qualify to join Premier Soccer League sides.

Grain Tigers are expected to compete in the ZIFA Central Region Division One League this season with renewed ambitions of securing promotion.
