Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube will on 6 September 2025 preside over the Gokwe Kana Constituency Sports Tournament, an event designed to promote unity, youth empowerment, and healthy living.
The tournament, which will feature soccer, netball, and volleyball, is expected to draw participants from across the constituency.
Organisers say the event provides an opportunity for the community to come together while showcasing local sporting talent.
In his remarks, Ncube, who is also the Member of Parliament for Gokwe Kana said sport remains a critical tool for social cohesion and development.
“Sports promote physical fitness, mental wellness, teamwork, and discipline. We also believe it helps fight social ills such as substance abuse among our youth by giving them a positive outlet,” he said.
To encourage competition, the winning team will walk away with a cash prize of US$7 000, a figure expected to motivate players to display their best skills.
Community leaders have welcomed the initiative, saying it fosters unity and provides recreational value while highlighting the importance of grassroots sports development.
The tournament is open to the public, with organisers calling on residents to attend in large numbers to celebrate sport and community spirit.
