Ghetto Emmaz Club, a grouping of well-wishers based in Mbizo 2 suburb in Kwekwe, has donated groceries valued at US$3 000 to 100 elderly residents as part of its Christmas outreach.
Speaking during the donation handover, the club’s president, Eddie Mangove, said the initiative was made possible through resources mobilised from friends and supporters to assist elderly people with food hampers during the festive season.
Mangove said his experience working with Plan International inspired him to support vulnerable groups, including the elderly and struggling families. He said the club also offers assistance during funerals and helps with school fees and medical bills for those who cannot afford them.
“I approached my friends, which led to the formation of Ghetto Emmaz in 2021,” Mangove said.
He emphasised that the club is non-political and focuses on community development and social support.
“We are not a political movement but aim to make a difference by helping the needy. Every year, we mobilise resources for this event,” he said.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the food hampers and called on the club to continue with the initiative, describing it as a noble cause that brings relief to vulnerable members of the community.
