The football fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the death of former Ziscosteel Football Club and Zimbabwe Young Warriors player, Jonnathan Boriwondo. He was 62.
Boriwondo’s brother, David, confirmed the death to 98.4 FM News, saying his passing at the family home in Mbizo, Kwekwe, on Sunday morning was a difficult loss for the family.
“He had a long history of diabetes. We played together at Drake Secondary School in Torwood, Redcliff, before he joined Ziscosteel as a junior and graduated into the senior team in 1982. He went on to play in the ZIFA Super League before being called up to the Zimbabwe Young Warriors,” said David.
Boriwondo’s football career spanned more than a decade, ending in 1994.
He is survived by three children — one son, David, a former Hwange FC and Nichrut FC player, and two daughters, Perpetual and Patricia.
Mourners are gathered at the family home, 853/5 Mbizo, Kwekwe. Burial arrangements were yet to be finalised at the time of publishing.
