Construction of the new Kwekwe’s Globe and Phoenix Primary School is set to begin this month.
This development comes after the original school was decommissioned due to a tragic incident where a classroom block collapsed into a mine shaft as a result of illegal mining operations.
Kwekwe District Development Coordinator Fortune Mpungu told this publication that a partner has come on board to fund construction of the new school and is already on site.
“We are making good progress at Globe and Phoenix Primary School. As you might be aware, we have completed the excavation works on the new site.
“Other materials are also on site, and the good news is that we now have a partner who will assist us in the construction of the school and is expected to start anytime soon.
“We hope the construction will begin this month, and we expect the partner to complete the works in the next five months, which is very encouraging for us,” he said.
Currently, learners from the school are attending classes in tents at Russell Sally Mugabe Primary School.
