Collision Mine has donated groceries and meat worth US$1 000 to Mbuya Saunyama Children’s Home in Mbizo 16, Kwekwe, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The donation was handed over by Collision Mine administration manager Simbarashe Mlambo, who delivered a message from the mine’s director, Rangarirai Juniel Muchineripi, and his family.
Speaking during the handover, Mlambo commended the founder of the home, Betty Saunyama, for her role in caring for orphaned children, saying her efforts complemented those of the Government.
“We thank Mbuya Saunyama for looking after the orphaned children at this home. She is complementing government efforts by taking care of the vulnerable,” said Mlambo.
He said the donation was part of the mine’s continued support to the home, especially during the festive season.
“On behalf of Collision Mine, I am delivering a message from Muchineripi and his family, who say that as part of our continued efforts to support the home, we have once again come to give a Christmas cheer to the children,” he said.
Mlambo added that the mine hoped to maintain its relationship with the institution.
“We pray for God’s blessings so that we will continue to lend support to the home,” he said.
Responding, Mbuya Saunyama Children’s Home founder Betty Saunyama expressed gratitude to Muchineripi, his family and Collision Mine for the donation, describing it as timely.
“You have always supported this home and we appreciate the kind gesture. The orphans will grow up remembering that you were looking after them,” she said.
Saunyama said the home, which was founded in 2000, survives through assistance from well-wishers and currently looks after 27 children.
She also prayed for the continued operation of the mine so that it could keep assisting the needy, while urging the mine to prioritise the welfare of its employees.
“The workers are the backbone of your operations,” she said.
Saunyama further acknowledged the Government’s support, thanking President Emmerson Mnangagwa for assisting the home to secure land.
