ZB Bank Kwekwe branch manager Ennia Chipindu has urged residents, businesses and stakeholders to donate towards charity in order to support underprivileged members of the community during the festive season.
Chipindu made the call while addressing guests at this year’s Kwekwe Mayor’s Cheerfund launch held in Kwekwe, where she said the true spirit of Christmas lay in generosity and caring for others.
“Christmas is a time for love, kindness and generosity. It is a time to think beyond our own needs and reach out to those who are struggling,” she said.
She noted that some families in the city were facing serious challenges, including lack of food and basic necessities, adding that collective action could help ease their burden.
“In our city, there are families who will not have a warm meal on their table and children who will not receive a single gift. But together, we have the power to change that,” Chipindu said.
She said every contribution, regardless of size, would make a difference to beneficiaries of the Cheerfund initiative.
“Every donation, big or small, will help put food on a family’s table and bring a smile to a child’s face. Every dollar counts,” she said.
Chipindu also thanked sponsors, partners and donors for their continued support, saying their contributions would have a tangible impact on the lives of vulnerable groups.
Kwekwe acting mayor Cllr Janet Ticharunga echoed the same sentiments, calling on individuals, institutions and the business community to contribute to the Mayor’s Cheerfund, which she described as a noble initiative reflecting shared responsibility and unity.
“As we approach the festive season, we are reminded that not everyone in our community is able to celebrate with the same comfort and security,” Ticharunga said.
She said vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and expectant mothers continued to face daily challenges, adding that the Cheerfund provided an opportunity for the city to respond collectively.
“The Mayor’s Cheer Fund is our collective responsibility. Through generous contributions, we aim to provide basic necessities and support that restores dignity and warmth to those who need it most,” she said.
Ticharunga said every contribution would have a meaningful impact, regardless of its size.
“Let us demonstrate that Kwekwe is not just a city of industry, but a city of compassion and care,” she said.
She also thanked sponsors, partners and visiting mayors from other cities for supporting the initiative.
The Kwekwe Mayor’s Cheerfund is an annual programme aimed at mobilising resources to assist vulnerable residents during the festive season.
