Kwekwe Ward 8 Cllr Edumakomborero Mlambo says plans are underway to revive the Amaveni Vendors Market and relocate informal traders operating in front of Amaveni shops to designated trading spaces.
Speaking on the sidelines of a Ward 8 feedback meeting at Amaveni Hall, Mlambo said residents had requested designated vending sites for second-hand clothing traders as part of efforts to improve order and support livelihoods.
“We agreed to resuscitate the Amaveni Vendors Market near Amaveni Hall. Vendors operating in front of Amaveni shops will be relocated to designated areas,” he said.
Mlambo said formalising vending activities would help improve compliance with council by-laws while enabling traders to contribute to local authority revenue through the payment of required fees and taxes.
He said the relocation would also help decongest trading areas and create a more organised business environment.
According to Mlambo, the feedback meeting was held to engage residents on service delivery and development priorities following the signing of performance contracts by local authorities.
He said residents also raised issues affecting the ward, with the provision of designated vending spaces emerging as one of the key concerns discussed during the meeting.
Mlambo said the local authority would continue engaging residents to ensure that development initiatives respond to community needs while promoting orderly urban management.
