Hardrock Football Club has suspended its chief executive officer, Kudzanai Hove, indefinitely pending investigations into violence that led to the abandonment of the Premier Soccer League match between Hardrock FC and Dynamos FC at Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe on Sunday.
In a statement released on today (Wednesday), Hardrock FC communications and media liaison officer Bruce Chikuni said the club leadership had taken the decision as investigations into the incident continue.
“Hardrock FC leadership has resolved to suspend Mr. Hove for an indefinite period pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation,” said Chikuni.
The match was abandoned following crowd trouble and acts of vandalism at the stadium, which reportedly left several people injured and caused damage to infrastructure.
Chikuni condemned the violence, saying it went against the values of the club and football in general.
“We strongly condemn all acts of violence and vandalism. Such conduct is contrary to the values of the club and has no place in football,” he said.
He added that the club would cooperate with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other stakeholders to identify those responsible for the disturbances.
“As Hardrock FC, we will work closely with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that everyone who played a role in causing the abandonment of the fixture is brought to book,” said Chikuni.
The club also apologised to supporters, the football community and members of the public over the incident.
“The club extends its apologies to supporters of both teams, the wider football community, and the public for the regrettable events that occurred,” he said.
Hardrock FC said further updates would be issued as investigations progress.
The Premier Soccer League and police are yet to release official findings on the violence and abandonment of the match.
