Kwekwe City Council has resolved to purchase a towing vehicle to strengthen parking enforcement and improve revenue collection under its City Parking operations.
Mayor Cllr Albert Zinhanga said the decision was made following a full council meeting, citing challenges in enforcing parking regulations in the city.
“As council, we are responsible for maintaining order in the city, including ensuring that motorists comply with parking regulations,” said Zinhanga.
He said the local authority has been experiencing difficulties in collecting fines from motorists whose vehicles are clamped for parking violations.
“We have observed that some motorists delay paying fines after their vehicles have been clamped, and in some cases, they tamper with or remove the clamping devices,” he said.
Zinhanga said the introduction of a towing vehicle is expected to address these challenges.
“Once a vehicle has been clamped, it can be towed away to a secure council yard. The owner will then be required to settle the fine before the vehicle is released,” he said.
He added that the procurement of the towing vehicle had already been included in the council’s 2026 budget.
“The towing vehicle was budgeted for and council has now resolved to proceed with the purchase,” said Zinhanga.
Council officials say the move is aimed at improving compliance with parking regulations and enhancing efficiency in revenue collection.
