Kwekwe Mayor Cllr Albert Zinhanga says the failure to conclude the naming of Chana B Primary School has delayed its registration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, forcing the institution to continue operating as a satellite school of Chana A Primary School.

Speaking to journalists shortly after a full council meeting, Cllr Zinhanga said council had tasked the school’s management with finalising the naming process, but progress had stalled despite the matter having been outstanding for several months.

“On Chana B Primary School naming, we have asked the management to give us a timeframe for the process of naming. It has now passed two or three months down the line, but it is continuously being said it’s an ongoing process,” said Zinhanga. “We need to put closure on the name of the school. That’s all I can tell you. We have given the management the task to complete the process.”

He explained that the absence of an officially approved name was the sole reason the school had not yet been registered as a standalone institution.

“In terms of registering the school, I think once the name has been established, then the school can be registered so that it will not operate as a satellite school,” he said. “Currently, it is operating as a satellite school of Chana A.”

The mayor did not indicate when the naming process was expected to be completed, but stressed the need for urgency to ensure the school’s full registration and normalisation of its operations.

Chana B Primary School is located in Mbizo and was established to ease pressure on existing schools in the area. Registration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education would allow it to operate independently, including receiving direct administrative recognition and support.
