Kwekwe General Hospital launches Christian Fellowship

Kwekwe General Hospital has launched a Christian Fellowship aimed at providing spiritual nourishment, encouragement and hope to both staff and patients, Medical Superintendent Dr Tinashe Gunda has said.

Speaking during the launch ceremony, Dr Gunda said the fellowship was part of the hospital’s commitment to holistic care that goes beyond clinical treatment to include emotional and spiritual support.

“As health professionals, we operate in an environment constantly exposed to sickness, pain, trauma and, at times, loss of life,” said Dr Gunda. “We meet people at their most vulnerable moments, when fear is high and hope is low.”

He said while science and clinical expertise remain central to healthcare delivery, there are situations where faith and prayer provide comfort and strength to both patients and health workers.

Dr Gunda said the Christian Fellowship would serve as a platform where health workers could draw strength during demanding times, while patients and their families could find reassurance and encouragement.

“This fellowship is not meant to replace clinical care, but to complement it, reminding us that every patient is more than a diagnosis and every bed number represents a human life,” he said.

He also called for collaboration between the hospital and local churches, saying both institutions serve the same community.

Dr Gunda said Kwekwe General Hospital receives patients from across the Midlands Province and beyond, including Gokwe North, Gokwe South, Silobela and Harare.

“The hospital belongs to the community,” he said. “While government builds and equips hospitals, it is the responsibility of the community to ensure the institution functions smoothly.”

Dr Gunda said the fellowship aligns with the hospital’s values of compassion, integrity, accountability and respect for human life, adding that the initiative seeks to promote unity and moral grounding among staff and patients.
