Former Gokwe Town Council acting town secretary Engineer Melsen Masukume has been shortlisted for interviews for the substantive town secretary post following the dismissal of Melania Mandeya in 2021.
Masukume, who is currently the director of works at Chiredzi Town Council, previously served as acting town secretary in Gokwe before being relieved of his duties by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Daniel Garwe, in December last year.
Gokwe Town Council chairperson Lisias Mutegwe later wrote to the ministry stating that Masukume left the council on a clean record and without any criminal charges.
In a letter dated 31 December 2025, Mutegwe invited Masukume for interviews scheduled for Monday, 19 January 2026, at the council chambers.
Masukume confirmed that he will attend the interviews, saying he left the council “on a clean sheet.”
Efforts to obtain a comment from Mutegwe were unsuccessful as his phone went unanswered.
